What is FontPair?

FontPair is an online typography tool created by my friend and fellow designer Hayden Mills that has as many as 40,000 visitors a month. As the name suggests, it displays a large list of different pairings and visual examples of each.

What Did I Do for FontPair?

In March 2018, Hayden came to me asking to help rebrand his website. This is what the logo looked like back then.

I gladly took the challenge—as he is a good friend and fellow designer—in order to help give such a great typography tool the best visual identity it deserved.

Sketches and Exploration

After many, many rounds of sketching, I finally got down to ideas for visual identity that were comprised of a symbol and wordmark, both of which would combine two different typefaces.

Here are a couple pages of initial sketches and snapshots of digital exploration. As you can tell, I was progressing toward a dual-typeface identity that would eventually make it into the final logo.

 New Look

Starting June 2018, the new FontPair branding went live on its website and social media accounts.
